Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile has been long rumored to plan the release of a new version of its Xperia Z1 smartphone globally, in the form of Xperia Z1 mini, yet no official confirmation on the matter has been provided as of now.

However, the company did confirm that the handset would be released on shelves in its homeland market, where users will be able to grab it as Xperia Z1 f.

When launched internationally, the phone should be as powerful as the Xperia Z1 flagship, although in a smaller package, yet we still have no idea of what it will actually look like.

Even so, that did not prevent designer Ben Ling from imagining what the smartphone might be like. You can also admire the concept phone he came up with in the photo attached to this article (via concept-phones).

The device sports the same design elements as the Xperia Z1, with a metallic Power button, the rear camera placed in the corner, and with a camera button on the side.

The hardware specifications of the concept phone are similar to those that have been rumored to make it inside the real handset when it lands on shelves in a few months.

Thus, the smartphone features a 4.3-inch 720p screen, along with a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor inside, and 2GB of RAM.

Furthermore, the device comes with 16GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot, and a 2300 mAh battery inside. It also features NFC, LTE, and the usual set of connectivity features and sensors.

The same as Xperia Z1, the upcoming mini handset packs a 20-megapixel camera on the back, with support for full HD video recording, along with a front camera to enable users to video chat while on the go.

Xperia Z1 mini is said to run under Google’s Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system, though chances are that the actual smartphone will hit shelves with a newer OS version on top.

Although only a concept, Ben Ling’s creation does appear to reflect what the yet unannounced device will look like, though we’ll have to wait for an official announcement on the matter to see whether things are indeed this way.
