ABI Research, a market research firm, believes that total sales of the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Wii U will fail to reach the numbers posted by the current generation of consoles at the five-year mark.

The company, quoted by Game Politics, says that after five years, the next gen will move 133 million devices to players, which is significantly lower than the 140 that the Xbox 360, the PS3 and the original Wii have managed.

Sam Rosen, a director at the firm, states, "Without solid titles and first-party franchises, platforms will have a difficult time finding traction. Streaming media is not enough when low-cost STBs are readily available."

A lot of gamers will also abandon home consoles in order to focus on mobile and social gaming options, which are cheaper and offer more variety.
