Microsoft's Xbox boss, Phil Spencer, has confirmed that the latest Xbox One June system software update for the dev kit edition of the console allows developers to access more GPU bandwidth, meaning they'll be able to make even better looking and better performing games than before, potentially allowing most titles to easily reach 1080p resolution and 60fps framerate.

The Xbox One just got a special June firmware update yesterday, with Microsoft rolling out a lot of fresh features for the home console, including support for external hard drives as well as better entertainment options, while paving the way for changes to the Xbox Live Gold membership and its benefits.

At the same time, a new system software update has also been rolled out for the dev kit edition of the Xbox One, which is given to developers who want to make games for the platform.

According to Microsoft's Xbox boss Phil Spencer, the new firmware update unlocks more GPU bandwidth for developers, meaning they'll be able to make games look even better than before.

"June Xbox One software dev kit gives devs access to more GPU bandwidth. More performance, new tools and flexibility to make games better," he said on Twitter.

It's unclear just what immediate effect this update will have on Xbox One games, but it does pave the way for future titles to look and perform better on Microsoft's console.
