Microsoft isn't playing catch-up with Sony's PlayStation 4

Microsoft believes that the development process for the Xbox One next-gen console wasn't rushed, as the company has had the device in the works for a very long time, not just to counter Sony's efforts with the PlayStation 4.

The Xbox One was revealed to the world back in May, much later than the PS4's announcement in February.

Since then, Microsoft has been playing catch-up in terms of features, trying to neutralize PS4's advantages and leading to some criticism aimed at the whole strategy.

While speaking with fans on Reddit, Microsoft's Larry Hryb revealed that the Xbox One development wasn't a rushed job.

"The Xbox One program has been in development for years, so calling it ‘Rushed’ is incorrect. Did we have a few challenges between May and August? Sure. But we are working on our own schedule – not anyone else’s. At Gamescom, every game in the Xbox booth was running on final Xbox One hardware. Every. Single. One. That would paint a very different take on the being 'rushed'."

Microsoft is set to debut its Xbox One in November, while the PS4 already has a concrete November 15 launch date in North America and a November 29 one in Europe.
