We’ve been reporting on some of the thinnest smartphones available on the market for quite some time now, and those keeping track know that technology advanced so quickly that it’s hard to believe how fast we’ve gone from a 10mm-thin device to a 5-6mm one.

Lately, the title of the world’s thinnest smartphone was owned by various Chinese OEMs and the trend seems to continue, as Vivo is about to announce its next flagship smartphone which is supposed to be one of the slimmest in the world.

In fact if rumors prove to be accurate, Vivo X5 Max could be the world’s thinnest smartphone at only 4.75mm. Currently, Oppo R5 has been tagged with the title of world’s sleekest handset powered by an operating system due to its 4.85mm thickness.

Unfortunately, given Vivo’s previous history, there’s no telling if the Chinese company will really launch such a slim smartphone this month.

However, we know for sure that Vivo will launch its next high-end smartphone, the X5 Max, next week, on December 10. The announcement comes via Weibo and doesn’t mention anything else except for the fact that the Vivo X5 Max will be made official.

Vivo X5 Max made headlines for the first time a few weeks ago when the smartphone was spotted at TENAA, the Chinese regulatory commission.

Along with the fact that the smartphone passed TENAA’s approval, details on the Vivo X5 Maxx made it online as well. Still, we recommend our readers to take the information with a pinch of salt until next week when Vivo is expected to announce the X5 Maxx smartphone.

The smartphone might not go on sale until early next year

First of all, Vivo’s smartphone is supposed to measure 153.9 x 78 x 4.75mm and it will weigh around 146g (battery included).

According to previous rumors, Vivo X5 Maxx will be powered by Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system out of the box, but there’s a slight chance the smartphone will eventually receive an Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade next year.

On the inside, the smartphone is said to feature a 1.7GHz octa-core processor and 2GB of RAM. There is no info on the amount of storage or microSD card slot.

Furthermore, the X5 Max is likely to pack a 13-megapixel photo snapper on the back with autofocus, LED flash and video recording, as well as secondary 5-megapixel camera in the front for selfies and video calls.

Last but not least, the smartphone will boast a large 5.5-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports 1080p resolution. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
