While the latest figures provided by Net Applications indicate that Windows 8 failed to impress last month, new statistics for the Steam platform reveal that Microsoft’s latest operating system is quickly increasing its market share.

Windows 8 has grown so much lately that it’s now more popular than Windows XP, the 11-year-old software that Microsoft tries to kill these days.

According to Steam figures, Windows 8 had a combined market share of 9.63 percent in February, while Windows XP recorded a slight decrease to 9.33 percent.

Windows 7 64-bit remains the number one operating system for Steam users, with a share of 55.48 percent, followed by the 32-bit version with 13.83 percent. Mac OS X 10.8 is still far away with 1.71 percent, while Ubuntu 12.10 only manages to reach a 0.71 percent share.
