Wii U gamers in Japan are reporting a new error that’s affecting the new Nintendo console, which is preventing them from accessing the eShop and does not allow them to apply any newly launched firmware update.

Kotaku translates a support article from Nintendo Japan that acknowledges the problem and says that, during the weekend, a patch will be delivered to all Wii U consoles in order to eliminate the issue.

This will also allow those who are beta testing Dragon Quest X to access and download the client for the role-playing game that has so far been inaccessible.

It’s unclear why the Wii U error is not also affecting devices in the Western hemisphere.

The new Nintendo device was launched in late 2012 and, since then, it has performed worse at retail than the company had been expecting, and errors will certainly not boost future prospects.
