One of the most popular messaging applications for mobile devices, WhatsApp Messenger has just received a major update that will improve Windows Phone users’ experience.

The new update is available for both Windows Phone 7 and 8 handsets, though some improvements may not be available for the former.

First of all, the application now supports lock screen notifications and backup function. There’s also a new Tile design that matches Windows Phone 8 Metro style. You can now tap “enter” to send a message and users will be able to send mass messages as well.

The latest version also comes with new attachment screen, including Audio, Video, Location, Picture, Camera and Contact, as well as several UI layout changes.

WhatsApp Messenger 2.9.2 is now available as a free download via Windows Phone Store and it should be fully compatible with all devices running Windows Phone 7.5 and up. Check it out here.
