Microsoft has completely redesigned the search feature in Windows 8.1 Preview, so the Bing-powered tool now allows you to look for content both online and offline.

As you can see in this video published on YouTube by bavogames, the so-called Windows 8.1 Preview Smart Search comes with options to search for files, documents, pictures, web links, and SkyDrive content, all from the Charms bar of your device.

Smart Search can be easily accessed by launching the aforementioned Charms bar and clicking on the dedicated “Search” icon or by simply typing anything on the Start screen.

Of course, Microsoft is expected to improve the search tool in the final version of Windows 8.1, so even more options are likely to be released by year end. According to rumors, Windows 8.1 is projected to hit RTM in August, while general availability will be announced in October.
