Usually, after manufacturers launch new products, they also produce promo-videos detailing the main capabilities of the devices. They try to make them amusing, corky and maybe in the process poke some fun at the competition. But Huawei’s new MediaPad X1 product video takes things to a whole new level.

The company offers us a fully-fledged short film, with the MediaPad X1 being the main actor. The 6:30 minute film is called “Love has a way, to exceed all limits” and the tablet takes on a Cupid-kind of role, connecting a man and woman, who have come together by virtue of accidentally (or not) swiping their bags.

For those of you who don’t know, the MediaPad X1 is the flagship tablet of the Chinese brand and was recently introduced at MWC 2014.

The company says this is the most compact tablet to have ever been built, boasting a 7.18 mm / 0.2 inches thickness, which is less than the iPads with its 7.5 mm / 0.29 inches. Furthermore, the tablet has a 2.9 mm / 0.1 inches edge bezel and is said to be 30% lighter than the iPad and 20% than the Nexus 7.

The tablet is supposed to provide the best screen-to-body ratio set at 80%. Huawei throws in full HD resolution (1920 x 1200 with 323ppi) and LTPS (low temperature polisilicon tech) that allows the display to be 20-30% more power efficient and to produce a faster response, richer color.

The screen is certainly the drawing point with this product, as it’s embedded content adaptive brightness control that allows lower power consumption, while delivering sharper fonts.

Don’t forget the tablet also has phone-calling capabilities, a feature you see being demoed in the video. Moving on, the tablet draws power from a 1.6GHz quad-core SoC with 28nm HPM tech and 4G LTE Cat4. The slate also has dual cameras (13MP on the back with Sony Exmor RS BSI auto scene recognition, 1080p video recording and 5MP frontal camera).

The X1 has another feature you won’t be finding in a lot of tablets. We’re talking about “intelligent grip suppression” which means users can hold a thumb on the screen and still scroll up or down using their fingers.

Anyway, Huawei has a bunch of new slate products on the market, but this one seems to be the most intriguing so far. Also, the device manufacturer has been rumored to be working on a new set of premium-looking tablets, called Vogue. Huawei is definitely looking to dominate through tablets, this year.
