Without a doubt, SSDs have managed to take the world of storage by storm, managing to bring about not only a higher level of reliability during use, but also an enhanced level of performance, particularly visible when several such storage units are joined together in large systems, as is the case with the IceWEB 3000.

Officially called the IceWEB 3000 Storage Systems with Solid State Drive (SSD) technology and also known as the IceWEB SS-3000HP-2.4SS, the storage solution can incorporate up to 12 SSD units, each 200GB solid state drive delivering over 30,000 read I/Os per second (IOPS).

And as if that wasn't enough, the company also informs us that the system can be expanded by the IceWEB DS-500HC-3.2SS Disk Shelf containing sixteen (16) SSDs, for even more storage capacity.

Furthermore, the SSDs can be combined with any other drive type (SAS or SATA) within the array, and ultra high performance storage systems can be created with the SSD being used alongside disk-based pools.

What's quite interesting to point out here is the very impressive level of versatility such systems provide, as they include iSCSI volumes, Fibre Channel LUNs, and NFS/CIFS file shares in any combination.

Plus, in order to ensure sufficient bandwidth, each IceWEB 3000 supports up to two 10GbE or two 8Gb Fibre Channel network connections, which is sufficient to support over forty (40) SSDs at maximum IOPS rates.

"IceWEB's SSD-based storage platforms deliver an amazing amount of performance for applications where performance is the critical success factor," stated Dave Glatfelter, VP of Product Marketing and Alliances for IceWEB, adding that "with the ability to mix and match drives, the IceWEB 3000 can accommodate any performance/capacity mix needed in today's virtualized environments."

Naturally, such a high-performance storage solution does come at a pretty hefty price point, the IceWEB 3000 with 2.4TB of capacity and 360,000 IOPS starts at $115,000.
