Almost six months after its official unveiling, Toshiba’s Excite AT200 tablet went on sale in the UK, where it is available online from Carphone Warehouse, with a starting price set at £399 ($631 US or 480 EUR).

Meant to become a premium Android tablet, the 7.7mm (0.3 inches) thick Excite AT200 is said to be the slimmest 10.1-inch slate around.

Despite its thin profile, the tablet is powered by a high-end dual-core TI OMAP 4430 Cortex A9 system-on-a-chip (SoC) device, clocked at 1.2GHz, which is paired with 1GB of LPDDR2 RAM.

Storage can be set at either 16GB or 32GB, depending on the version one choses, while the rest of the specs list includes a 5MP rear-facing camera, a 2MP front-facing snapper, Micro HDMI, Micro USB, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.

As most other 10.1-inch Android tablets, the Excite AT200 display has a resolution of 1280x800 and offers 178-degree viewing angles. According to Toshiba, the built-in battery pack can provide up to eight hours of running time.

Weighing a mere 1.18 pounds (535g), Toshiba’s tablet will initially run the 3.2 version of the Android OS, also known as Honeycomb, but an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update should arrive soon afterwards.

As mentioned previously, the AT200 is available right now from Carphone Warehouse via the retailer’s website, but brick and mortar stores should get it one week from now, namely on February 15.

Pricing for the 16GB version has been established at £399 ($631 US or 480 EUR), while the 32GB model is listed at £449 ($ 710 US or 540 EUR), according to AndroidOS.in.

Toshiba’s AT200 tablet is also known as Excite X10 in the US, and as the Regza AT200 in some parts of Asia.
