“This way of eating is energy giving, clean and exciting,” 57-year-old Joe Anderson said in a recent interview

Happily married couple Joe and Charlene Anderson, together with their young kids, are carnivores through and through. They only eat meat - beef, to be more precise - and don't use salt or other spices to season their meals.

As if purposely seeking to spite nutritionists and medical experts, they don't even gulp down their steaks in the morning or at least for lunch. On the contrary, they eat once a day just before going to bed.

When they sit down for a quiet meal together, Joe goes through about 2 to 3 pounds (0.9 to 1.3 kilograms) of beef. Wife Charlene and kids Charlie and George, on the other hand, settle for just 1 or 2 pounds (0.4 to 0.9 kilograms).

Joe insists that, as weird as this may sound, this all-meat diet keeps his family healthy. “This way of eating is energy giving, clean and exciting,” he said in a recent interview, as cited by Oddity Central.

True, eating nothing but beef costs them about $1,000 to $1,750 (roughly €890 to €1,560) a month, but 57-year-old Joe says it's well worth it. Wife Charlene, 42, agrees with him.

The family didn't always eat nothing but beef

Joe Anderson explains that it was in the 1990s that he took an interest in meat-based diets. In 1998, his wife was diagnosed with an infectious disease and found that the only thing she could eat without feeling it was red meat.

Together, the couple agreed to start eating nothing but animal protein. In time, they said goodbye to eggs, cheese, bacon, fish, chicken and other such dishes and stuck to eating copious amounts of beef.

When their children started eating solids, they introduced them to this diet. Charlie and George seem to enjoy it, and although they occasionally try other foods, they eventually end up hating them because they make them feel ill.

“Occasionally they’ll have something now and then but they feel pretty lousy afterwards! It’s a built in deterrent! Try eating zero-carb for 4-5 years and then eat a piece of cake! Ha ha!” said Joe.

Anything other than beef just doesn't cut it

Just like their kids feel wrong when they try fruit, chocolate or some other treat that isn't meat, Joe and Charlene Anderson say that eggs, dairy or even animal organs give them puffy eyes and even headaches. Steaks, however, are just fine and dandy.

Mind you, the family does not even choose lean pieces. Instead, they love and adore steaks that pack a little more fat nestled in between the meat fibers. This is because they don't have to add any more fat to cook them.

Apart from the fact that they don't eat anything other than beef, the family only drink water. They say that, just like other types of meat, soda or any other beverage that isn't water simply doesn't agree with them and makes them sick.
