The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, a superb adventure game with an almost photo-realistic engine, might be getting a Linux release.

The developers of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter from The Astronauts have been working on this game for quite some time and the results are outstanding. So far, the game has been announced on the PC and PS4 platforms, but the devs are thinking about releasing a Linux version as well.

Because the game employs such a powerful engine, it's easy to understand why its makers are not sure about the Linux and Mac OS X versions. It's difficult to make games for the latest generation of PCs and, at the same time, build a port of the game that can run on the latest version of OpenGL, which is not even supported properly by the companies who build GPUs.

The good news about the game is the fact that it's based on Unreal Engine 3, although it's hard to guess that from the screenshots and videos. This is good news because there are already some games that use this engine and that already have a Linux version out there.

One of the developers from The Astronauts studio, the guys who are making the game, went to twitter and said they were looking into a Mac OS X and Linux version, although no one really asked.

This is far from a confirmation, but it's good to know that it's on the developers' radar.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter tells the story of the last investigation made by Paul Prospero, a detective who received a mysterious letter from the boy named Ethan Carter. The detective travels to the town of Red Creek Valley and he starts to unravel a story that goes beyond anything you might imagine.

The players won't have to do any fighting, and the gameplay relies only on puzzle solving and story-telling. It's part of a new generation of adventure games that promise to put the story above anything else.

Even so, from the video, the players will see that some of the scenes are quite gruesome, although there are no enemies to shoot and the makers of the game don't use any scare tactics.

The Astronauts is a Polish studio formed by developers who used to work for People Can Fly, which is best known for the Painkiller series.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is expected to arrive on September 25, 2014, on Steam for Windows.
