Sony has confirmed that The Last Guardian title, currently in development at its Team Ico studio, won't be making an appearance at this year's Tokyo Games Show 2011 conference, which starts later this week in Japan.

TGS 2011 is set to once again open its gates to a huge number of gamers, as well as many large companies, not just the ones from Japan, like Sony or Nintendo.

Still, seeing as how they're on home turf, both companies are expected to bring a large number of titles, as well as new platforms, like the PlayStation Vita or Wii U, to the convention, in order to impress the legions of Japanese gamers.

Now, after confirming that it's bringing more than 50 titles to TGS 2011, including lots of unannounced games for the PlayStation Vita, Sony has stated that The Last Guardian won't be among them.

"We wanted to confirm that The Last Guardian is not on the schedule for this year's Tokyo Game Show," Brian Dunn, associate product marketing manager, said on the PlayStation blog.

The Last Guardian, currently in development at Sony's Team Ico, was showcased back at E3 2009, and was given an official release date of late 2011 back at last year's Tokyo Games Show.

No other details were revealed since then, while the game skipped other large conferences like E3 2011 or Gamescom 2011. Now, it's also skipping TGS 2011, although Sony is trying to convince gamers that they shouldn't worry.

"However we can assure you that Ueda-san and the rest of the development team are hard at work to bring his lofty vision to life and deliver the very best gaming experience possible."

In the meantime, Sony wants gamers to enjoy the recently released Team Ico Collection for the PlayStation 3, which packs in critically acclaimed games Ico and Shadow of the Colossus and is released on September 27, in North America.
