14 DAY TRIAL // Believe it or not, but Microsoft Word is not only a terrific productivity tool, but also a great counter-terrorism weapon, as the app recently helped British police expose two terrorists planning a bomb attack in the UK.
According to a report by the Belfast Telegraph, Muslim convert Richard Dart and his accomplice used Microsoft Word to work out a bombing plan in the United Kingdom, thus trying to bypass any surveillance technology that could track their conversation.
It appears that the duo used the same computer to type the bombing plan and then removed the text, thinking that secret services would be unable to intercept their conversation.
Microsoft Word, on the other hand, auto-saved parts of the text, which helped British police expose their plans and arrest them as they were traveling to Pakistan.
According to the same report, Dart and his accomplice Imran Mahmood discussed bomb making plans, with both going to Pakistan to receive special terrorist training and instructions on how to make the explosives.
When they were arrested in 2010, police discovered traces of explosives as well, which was an indication that the duo was very close to launching the bomb attack.
Dart was jailed for six years, while Mahmood received a sentence of nine years and nine months in prison for terrorism.
