Owners of Sony Xperia Z1s devices on the network of wireless carrier T-Mobile have been long waiting for the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update to start arriving on their devices, and it appears that this is finally happening today.

The Sony Xperia Z1s is available in the United States exclusively on T-Mobile’s network and, while other Xperia Z1 models received an update to KitKat a while ago, this device has been left out of the update plan until now.

However, it seems that users can finally check on their handsets to see whether the new OS version is available for download by going to Settings > About Phone > Software updates.

As mentioned above, the new software refresh will bring the Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system version on these devices. Once it has been installed, users will see it as build number 14.4.B.0.37.

Some owners of Sony Xperia Z1s devices have already received the update and are reporting successful installations, though it appears that others might have to wait a bit longer for it to arrive, as can be seen on T-Mobile’s own support website.

According to XperiaBlog, the new software update should arrive on devices with all the features and enhancements that were included in it when it was released to other Xperia Z1 models out there.

Among these, we can count a transparent navigation bar, along with modified Status Bar and Quick Settings. This also means that users will receive the white icons in the Notification Bar, the same as the owners of other KitKat-enabled devices out there enjoy.

Additionally, the new platform upgrade should arrive on devices with a brand new boot animation, while also bringing a variety of new themes.

Moreover, following the update, users should be able to take advantage of compatibility with the SmartBand SWR10 and Lifelog application, it seems.

All owners of Xperia Z1 devices (model number C6916) will be receiving the new operating system iteration, even though some might not get it right away.

As soon as the update is available for their devices, users should receive a notification on the matter, given that T-Mobile and Sony are deploying it over the air. However, they can also head over to the Sony PC Companion software on their PCs in order to install the update, it seems.

To ensure a successful installation, Xperia Z1s users should make sure that their smartphones run under stock firmware. Rooted devices are not supported, it seems.
