The changes that Blizzard is introducing to the recently announced Starcraft 2 World Championship are designed to make it easier for fans to follow the matches and the overall performance of the various players.

Mike Morhaime, the chief executive officer at the company, tells Gamespot that, “I think it really falls to us, to Blizzard, we’re really the only company in position to work with everybody, to help create a single storyline in the ecosystem.”

The company has managed to get rival Korean leagues OGN and Gom to work together on the Starcraft 2 World Championship.

The revamped event will have a prize pool of 1.6 million dollars (1.24 million Euro) and different divisions for Europe, North America and South Korea.

During 2013, the competition will have three seasons, with 16 players then fighting to become World Champion.
