The development team at BioWare working on the Rise of the Hutt Cartel expansion for Star Wars: The Old Republic announce that it will be launched on April 14, with a slew of new content for gamers to experience.

The information comes from a Game Developers Conference panel that Gamespot attended.

As the name implies Rise of the Hutt Cartel is designed to introduce a major new faction to the MMO, with the crime organizations able to influence affairs on a galactic scale, drawing both Republic and Empire into their own conflicts.

Gamers will get to visit an entirely new planet filled with quests and events and there are more skills and items for players to use as they tackle the new challenges.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is currently free-to-play although subscribers get a number of in-game advantages.
