Sources are saying

Radical Entertainment has been working hard recently. Its upcoming Prototype videogame is set to launch this summer and, after a delay, the free running title featuring a morphing protagonist looks really interesting.

But Radical might have even bigger plans once it ships Prototype, as several sources have been quoted as saying that the developer is preparing to create a Spider Man videogame, which will probably be scheduled for 2010.

The sources have talked to the Cut Scene blog hosted by Variety and they seem pretty sure of their information. Radical Entertainment is one of the two development studios that survived after the Activision Blizzard merger, and was allowed to complete its projects, which, in the case of Radical, meant launching Prototype.

A Spider Man game would not be a radical shift (pun intended) for the developer. After all, Prototype is open world and one would expect a Spider Man game to be the same. The protagonist in Prototype, Alex Mercer, is moving through New York quickly, running up on buildings, leaping to catch helicopters in mid flights and turning into the various people that he meets and absorbs. Spider Man is also swinging through New York and the main difference is the way he uses his webs to do so.

The developer will probably use the same game engine while adding some polish. Radical also has experience working with super hero intellectual properties as it has created The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. The last Spider Man videogame, Web of Shadow, was released last year and was created by Shaba.

Activision is also saying that a new Transformers videogame, not linked with the movie series, is in development at the High Moon studio, with a 2010 release date attached. The studio previously worked on the Bourne Conspiracy title. Another Transformers game is set to be launched alongside a new movie in the series.
