At CES 2015, ASUS was one a few device manufacturers that rolled out a new flagship smartphone, in the form of the ZenFone 2.

The device brings forth some pretty spectacular specs and even more amazing is the price at which the handset will reportedly sell, said to be $199 / €167.

But how does ASUS’ new baby stack up in comparison to other flagships present on the market? In what follows, we’re going to do a comparison between this model and LG’s G3 handset which proved quite popular with smartphone enthusiasts.

Design and Display

Both handsets boast a brushed metal texture and have the volume rocker living on the back. They also take advantage of a 5.5-inch IPS display, but the ZenFone 2 offers 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution with 401ppi, while the LG takes things a little bit further with 2560 x 1440 resolution and 534 ppi.

The two models are outfitted with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 to help protect the display from accidental scratches and what not.

As for size, the ZenFone is a little bit larger than the LG G3, but the latter is more compact, coming in at 146.3 x 74.6 x 9.1 mm / 5.76 x 2.94 x 0.35 inches compared to 152.5 x 77.2 x 10.9 mm / 6.00 x 30.4 x 0.43 inches.

The ZenFone also weighs 170 g / 6 oz, while the LG G3 is a bit lighter coming in at 151 g / 5.26 oz.

Processor and Memory

The ASUS phone takes advantage of either an quad-core Intel Atom Z3480 clocked at 2.3GHz or Intel Atom Z2580 chip working at 1.8GHz (plus PowerVR G6430) and is the first to arrive with 4GB of RAM (although a 2GB version is also possible).

In contrast, the LG G3 works with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 (plus Adreno 330) fitted with 3GB of RAM (the 2GB option is present here too).

Both devices bundle a microSD card which can help expand memory up to 64GB on the ASUS ZenFone 2 and up to 128GB on the LG G3.

Camera

The ZenFone 2 takes advantage of a 13MP camera with Dual LED Flash and a 5MP shooter up in front with wide-angled (85-degree) lens that has the ability to shoot panorama mode. The device can also shoot 1080p video at 30fps.

As for the LG G3, it also has a 13MP camera up in front with flash and laser autofocus, while the secondary camera is a 2.1MP one (can shoot 1080p video at 30fps).

The main snapper is capable of recording video at 2160p / 30fps and 1080p / 30fps.

Connectivity and Sensors

The ZenFone 2 takes advantage of GPS/A-GPS, GLONASS, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC.

It also has an accelerometer, proximity, ambient-light, gyroscopic, digital compass and hall-effect sensors.

On the other hand, the LG G3 has A-GPS, GLONASS, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, USB 2.0, HDMI out, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and NFC.

Operating System

The ASUS ZenFone 2 was launched with Android 5.0 with the company’s Zen UI plastered on top. The LG G3 ships out with Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box, but the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop has been rolled out into the wild.

Battery

The ASUS flagship relies on a 3,000 mAh Li-Polymer, but since the device is yet to arrive in the wild, we don’t have specific numbers yet.

As for the LG G3, it bundles a Li-Ion 3,000 mAh battery which should give users 19 hours of talk time on average.
