Although Sony Xperia ion was unveiled five months ago, the smartphone has yet to make it in the United States. The phone was originally slated for an AT&T release, but it is yet to hit shelves.

However, the smartphone has been recently introduced in Taiwan, and will soon arrive in Hong Kong as well. This doesn’t seem to be the “global launch” that Sony promised back in January.

Anyway, there is some good news for Sony fans as the Japanese company confirmed the Xperia ion European availability at the Medpi event in Monaco.

According to Sony, the GSM version of Xperia ion will be available in France beginning September, though the handset maker failed to reveal any details on price tag.

Sony Xperia ion is expected to ship with Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform and a large 4.55-inch Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine capacitive touchscreen display with HD (720 x 1280 pixels) resolution.
