Sony’s Xperia Z flagship smartphone appears to be very successful already, with over 4.6 million units estimated to have been sold in 40 days.

Apparently, the fact that Sony managed to bring the smartphone to shelves early this year helped sales, and should allow it to reach a 10-million sold units mark shortly, hksilicon notes.

The handset, launched with a 5-inch full HD touchscreen display, a quad-core processor inside, and dust and waterproof capabilities, can easily prove better than competition in some instances, that’s for sure.

It also arrives on shelves with a 13-megapixel photo snapper on the back, capable of full HD video recording, and with a front camera for making video calls, while running under Google’s Android Jelly Bean operating system.

Sony has yet to confirm these numbers, but it might not be too long before it does that, so stay tuned for more on this.
