Sony mentions both OS variants in different posts

Sony just launched its budget-friendly Xperia E4 which arrives a few weeks before MWC 2015 in single and dual-boot configurations.

We shared with you the full spec list of the device; however, one thing in particular remains quite puzzling.

Android 5.0 or Android 4.4.4? It's a mystery

Yesterday we reported that the Xperia E4 would ship out with Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box, which is what the Sony Developer World page says.

But now that the product page for the phone has been set up, we can see the Xperia E4 is listed as having Android 5.0 Lollipop onboard.

So which one is it? Naturally, we are hoping that the latter scenario turns out to be true.

However, the Lollipop mention might just signify Sony’s willingness to provide the update for the handset at some point. We currently don’t know what the case is, but hopefully Sony will clarify things soon.

The Xperia E4 arrives with a 5-inch IPS LCD display with qHD resolution (540 x 960 pixels) and a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor fitted with 1GB Of RAM and 8GB of internal storage (which can be expanded via microSD card).

The budget handset also contains a 5MP/2MP camera combo. One of the biggest selling points of the handset is that according to the producing company the 2,300 mAh battery onboard would be able to sustain a 2-day life cycle.

Sony also throws in Battery Stamina and Ultra Stamina power saving modes to make sure it will help with the process.

The phone boasts curved edges, a textured back, a scratch-resistant display, a stainless steel camera ring and a diamond-cut aluminum power button.

Albeit claiming the new Xperia E4 takes advantage of the company’s OmniBalance design philosophy, one can’t help but notice the new phone doesn't look very similar to the company’s latest handsets.

The handset is due to appear later this month, then we'll know for sure

Apart from being utterly confused about which operating system runs on the Xperia E4, Sony hasn’t said anything about the pricing of the device, although it mentions it will be “highly competitive.” Whatever that means.

The phone should be ready to make it out in retail by the end of this month, so we’re probably going to know more when that happens.
