Although Sony is best-known for its proprietary memory card format, the MemoryStick (and its several variants), the company seems to have fully acknowledged the very high level of popularity SD cards enjoy nowadays and rolled out three new SDHC memory card ranges, designed to work with most of the compatible products out there.

As expected, the three new series of memory card provide different storage capacities, speeds and price points, the affordable ESSENTIAL Series and value-added EXPERIENCE Series being joined by the flagship EXPERT Series for photo users who demand class-leading capacity and transfer speeds.

The brand new EXPERT Series of high-speed SD memory cards is ideal for memory-hungry applications, from Full HD video to continuous burst shooting and 3D imaging.

Supporting data transfer speeds up to 20MB/s, the SF-32NX/16NX/8NX (the three models available in the series, packing 32, 16 and 8GB of storage, respectively) is a no-compromise solution for storing and sharing high-resolution video and still images captured with your DSLR camera, compact system camera or Full HD camcorder.

Next in line comes the value-added EXPERIENCE series, that's available in capacities from 2GB up to 32GB, and supports data transfer speeds up to 15MB/s, being a very good choice for shooting stills and Full HD video with DSLR cameras or camcorders.

It's also important to mention that EXPERIENCE and EXPERT Series card owners will get two interesting applications from Sony for free, namely File Rescue Version HD and x-Pict Story software.

Last, but certainly not least, comes the entry-level ESSENTIAL series, consisting of Class 4 SDHC cards available in 2GB, 4GB & 8GB capacities and designed for general-purpose use (including here storing and transferring digital music and gaming data).

In addition to the current EXPERIENCE series, the new range of EXPERT and ESSENTIAL Series SDHC removable memory cards by Sony will become available from January 2011, with no details regarding the possible pricing being provided for the time being, unfortunately.
