All ahead of today's announcement

Sony has been a very successful company in terms of gaming over the time, but sadly, during the past two years, the market hasn't been under the Japanese company's domination, as the PlayStation 3 and PSP have achieved mediocre sales, being beaten by its local neighbor, Nintendo.

Seeing how the PS3 is getting beaten every month by its rivals, a lot of people have called for a price cut so that the 400-dollar console would be more attractive to buyers. Time and time again, various Sony representatives denied such a thing, saying that their added value strategy would pay off eventually.

But when Sony announced that it would reveal something big today, the rumor mill started spinning once again, with a lot of people deeming certain a price cut for the big and black console. As always, in order to settle the masses, Al De Leon, Public Relations manager for Sony Computer Entertainment America, released a statement in which he denied a PS3 price cut, highlighting the commitment of his company to keeping the momentum of the console.

“As we have stated previously, we do not have plans for a PS3 price drop, and any rumors to that effect are false and are the result of speculation,” the statement read. “SCEA remains focused on the long-term momentum of the PS3. With the industry's best software lineup this year, combined with our most aggressive marketing campaign to date, we remain confident in our approach and the value we're delivering with PS3.”

As people are still waiting for a PS3 price cut, a lot of evidence has appeared on the Internet about the fact that the PlayStation 2 will be on the receiving end of a discount. Kotaku posted all of these rumors, starting with a receipt from a store and concluding with a picture of a Target brochure in which the PS2 was advertised as having its price cut from 130 to 99 dollars.

Until Sony makes the concrete announcement, nothing is for certain, so we'll just have to wait and see which console will get a price cut.
