Video game publisher SEGA has announced during the San Diego Comic Con that it is working on a high-definition remake for the Dreamcast title Sonic Adventure 2, which was first launched during 2001.

The remake will be launched on the PlayStation Network service from Sony and on the Xbox Live Arcade from Microsoft.

Sonic Adventure 2 is best known as the game that first introduced Shadow the Hedgehog, the dark alter ego of Sonic.

The two characters have their own storylines and a number of familiar characters make appearances as the heroes are called upon to try and save their world once again.

The HD remake of Sonic Adventure 2 will include leaderboards, support for Trophies and Achievements and more social elements.

SEGA has not announced an exact launch date for the remade game.

The company has lately been mining its back catalog for hits that can be upgraded for current consoles so more Sonic titles from the Dreamcast era might also get new versions.
