It was bound to happen! With the developing company already in their pocket Microsoft could not afford Skype to bear the mark of Google. So the first move after acquiring Skype was to remove the money-generating Google toolbar from now their product.

The official changelog for Skype 5.6.0.110 reads “In this Skype release we have removed Google product offers from the Skype install flow”, which is just a fancy way of saying they kicked out all Google traces from the installation procedure.

So, as a result, when you install the latest version of Skype there will be not any other third party bits pushed on the system. Acknowledgement of third party software used in the program is also among the changes.

However, some issues also got fixed, such as a memory leak in Firefox plugin (click-to-call) and, interestingly enough, a crash of the product on the latest Microsoft operating system, Windows 8.
