The initiative comes from the same TES Renewal Project responsible for Skywind

Similar to how a bunch of industrious gentlemen are attempting to recreate the entirety of The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind on the Skyrim Engine, there is also an initiative looking to deliver the content of The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion to the same robust engine, in order to breathe new life into a timeless adventure.

Skyblivion is being handled by a different team than Skywind, so the two projects won't end up sabotaging each other as they race toward a finish line that's somewhere in the distant future. In addition to this, Skyblivion is at a much earlier stage than its brother, so there will be a long wait ahead before any of us is able to get our hands on it.

"Skyblivion is very early in development and as you might have noticed textures and models are pretty much untouched at this point. This is where YOU come in. In order to do this project right we will need help from the community with either the development or simply spreading the word so that we can get people interested in helping out with this project (just like Skywind)," the mod's developers state.

Their work is getting serious attention from the many fans of The Elder Scrolls series, so it's likely that they'll get all the help they need to make Skyblivion a reality faster. If you want to learn more about this, head to the TES Renewal Project page.
