Electronic Arts and Klei Entertainment have confirmed that Shank 2 will be released in early 2012 for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms, continuing the story of Shank, the critically acclaimed 2D side-scrolling brawler that impressed legions of gamers from around the world.

While Shank told the origin story of its main protagonist, Shank, and the cooperative campaign provided even more backstory into the his actions, alongside those of his buddy, Falcone, Shank 2 brings the story of his redemption, as he is "thrust back into action when the lives of those close to him are endangered."

Expect the same sharp mechanics and distinctive visual style to be included in the upcoming title, while a new cooperative survival mode that "has gamers working together to take down their foes, relying on the environment and weapon pick-ups for survival," is also included.

Shank 2 is out on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in early 2012 as a downloadable title.
