Even though a new build of Windows 8.1 was leaked yesterday, screenshots showing the RTM version have already reached the web, indicating that Microsoft actually completed development of the stable release.

The picture you’re seeing here, together with the one I published yesterday, shows the so-called Windows 8.1 9478 RTM, which could mean that Microsoft has provided OEMs with the RTM version of the first Windows 8 update.

While no other screenshots have been released so far, we do know that Windows 8.1 is set to hit RTM sometime this month, so expect an official announcement any day from now.

As for general availability, Microsoft could bring the operating system update to the market soon after RTM, as the company is planning to give manufacturers more time to prepare new products in time for the holiday season.
