The handset is available for free on the $79 Vodafone Cap

Australian mobile phone carrier Vodafone has a new smartphone available for its users, the Samsung Galaxy Note.

The handset is available for purchase on the operator’s network with a price tag of $0 upfront on the $79 Vodafone Cap (Minimum cost over 24 months is $1896). It can already be found on the carrier’s website.

Featuring a large 5.3" WXGA HD Super AMOLED touchscreen display, the Galaxy Note is the largest smartphone in the world.

The device packs a dual-core application processor inside, along with 16GB of internal memory (expandable through a microSD memory card slot) and an 8MP camera on the back, along with a front camera for video calling.

Running under Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, the handset will be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in the second quarter of the year.
