Samsung will finally put out a new laptop

Samsung’s notebook business isn’t going as strong as the tech giant would have wanted it. As you might remember, the Korean tech giant stopped selling laptops (including Chromebooks) altogether in Europe and now concentrates on the US alone.

It’s Samsung’s meek notebook sales that are to blame for the company’s descending “mobile” business (the term refers to tablets and laptops). According to a recent report, Lenovo is expected to overtake Samsung in terms of shipments from this particular category in 2015.

Samsung finally breaks out a new laptop

It’s been a while since we haven’t seen any new Samsung laptops arrive on the market, but this will soon change. Sammy will also be taking advantage of Intel’s fifth generation chip (Broadwell) that will go into the upcoming ATIV Book 9 Plus (NP40X3K).

The laptop has already been listed with BHPhotovideo and its recent appearance in an FCC listing also confirms the device will be made available for sale soon enough.

Specifications about the new device are quite scarce at the moment, but we can guess this model borrows quite a lot from the 2013 version, if the pictures posted with the online retailer are any indication of anything.

Most likely, the laptop is going to take advantage of an aluminum alloy body that’s quite light and thin. The new machine will retain the same form factor as the previous iteration, bringing forth a 13.3-inch display.

The resolution remains a mystery at this point, but we’ll remind that you that the 2013 version used a multitouch panel with 10 touch points that offered a 3200 x 1800 pixel resolution. It’s quite unlikely that the new model will take a step back.

One thing is certain, the power house of the laptop will be an Intel Core i5-5200U, a dual-core technology with support for HyperThread and a clock rate of 2.2GHz. The model is going to be fitted with 8GB of RAM and 128GB SSD.

On the other hand, Adorama lists a different model that takes advantage of Intel Core i7-5500U clocked at 2.4GHz in combination with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

As for ports and connections available, we don’t know anything for sure but thinking of last year’s model, the 2014 one will probably get an SD card, HDMI out, two USB 3.0 ports, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

The availability of the new Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus is yet to be announced, and when the machine arrives in retail, it will sell for a pretty hefty $1,299 / €1,042.
