Last year, Ska Studios announced the upcoming release of their Souls-like game called Salt and Sanctuary. Ska Studios is an indie developer that will bring its game to PlayStation 4 and PS Vita sometime this year.

Salt and Sanctuary was one of the most interesting indie games presented at last year’s PlayStation Experience event. It may also be considered one of the most anticipated indie games for 2015.

When someone says Souls-like game, many instantly think at Demon’s Souls or Dark Souls unique and unforgiving combat mechanics, but they would be wrong to put Salt & Sanctuary in the same boat.

Lords of the Fallen is a Souls-like game that doesn’t really feel like one, but borrows some elements from From Software’s games. Salt and Sanctuary is different when it comes to combat, but it’s meant to offer you a similar dark and gritty atmosphere at least.

Coming up on PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in 2015

First of all, Salt and Sanctuary is a 2D action platformer, so when you say that you usually stop thinking at Souls games, but you would do a mistake in this case.

Developer Ska Studios was very clear that their game is heavily inspired from the Souls games. There are numerous mechanics that Salt and Sanctuary borrows from Souls games, such as combat stats (health and stamina) and their use, along with many others.

Salt and Sanctuary is slated for a 2015 release on PlayStation 4 and PS Vita, but an exact launch date has yet to be unveiled.

From the gameplay video that has just been released by developers, it looks like Salt & Sanctuary is shaping up nicely. While we have no info on the game’s budget, we can’t help but wonder what developers could have done with a Dark Souls 2 budget.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on this one, so stay tuned for more updates on the matter. Also, thumbs up Ska Studios for all your work on Salt and Sanctuary, it looks great.
