Kotaku reports that a Canadian video game industry source, which has ties to publisher Electronic Arts, is reporting that the developers at PopCap Games are working on a multiplayer shooter based on the Plants vs Zombies universe.

The game is apparently linked to home console and will be similar in some respects with the Valve made Team Fortress 2.

PopCap Games is apparently in the early stages of the project and the publisher has not yet greenlit the full development process for the Plants vs Zombies shooter.

A new PopCap team has been created recently, housed inside EA Canada, and the core development team is made up of veterans from the Black Box studio.

The studio has also been hiring developers who have experience with console development and the multiplayer shooter genre.

Electronic Arts has not offered any comment on the rumor about a Plants vs Zombies multiplayer shooter.
