GTA V also performs well on both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3

The newly launched Pokemon X & Y has managed to take over the number one position on the Japanese video game market with sales of 1,866,570 copies and has also delivered a significant boost to the overall sales of the 3DS.

The Nintendo handheld has managed to deliver 213,570 units to gamers for the week that ended on October 13, a big increase over the 122,987 of the previous seven-day period.

The PlayStation Vita also saw a boost in its own sales, reaching 60,166 coming from a lowly 3,500, according to figures from NeoGAF.

The PlayStation 3 is in third place, while the Wii U continues its decline and is under 3,500 units sold.

The rest of the video game top ten includes: Grand Theft Auto V on the PS3, Monster Hunter 4, Tales of Symphonia Chronicles, Dangan-Ronpa 1-2: Reload, Soccer Tsuku: Pro Soccer Club!, Fairy Fencer F, Soccer Tsuku: Pro Soccer Club!, GTA V on Xbox 360 and Warriors Orochi 3: Ultimate.
