Sony has launched a new Facebook application for its new PlayStation Vita handheld, allowing gamers to upload photos directly to their Wall and their News feed while also introducing the ability to quickly add tags to their images.

All system languages are now supported by the Facebook app and improve the experience of browsing the popular social network.

All those interested can download the Facebook application from the PlayStation Store, which means that they will need to have the most recent Vita firmware installed.

As smartphones have eaten away at the market share of the dedicated gaming handheld, both Nintendo and Sony have made efforts to show that their devices can compete in the social and communications area.

When the PlayStation Vita was launched, Sony emphasized that it would allow gamers to quickly and easily share information with their friends and that it would have a number of dedicated applications for access to Facebook and other services like Twitter and various music services.
