Sony has confirmed that an optional system software update for the PlayStation Vita handheld console will be released soon.

The update will take the firmware up to version 2.12 and will improve the stability during the use of certain features.

The PlayStation Vita portable console may not be selling as well as Sony had hoped, but the company is dedicated to improving the console through many software updates.

After releasing a few in quick succession, a brand new firmware has just been confirmed by Sony via the PlayStation Twitter account.

According to the company, an optional update will arrive soon, taking the PS Vita's software up to version 2.12.

The new firmware improves the system's stability during the use of certain features, but Sony didn't go into detail, so it's unclear what scenarios have been improved.

The PS Vita firmware 2.12 will soon be available for download and will be applied the next time you start up the console and are connected to a wireless Internet hotspot.
