Nvidia and Sony announce that the upcoming PlayStation 4 home console will offer support for the PhysX and APEX technologies and that software development kits are now available for game designers.

Mike Skolones, product manager for the PhysX tech at Nvidia, says in the announcement that “Great physics technology is essential for delivering a better gaming experience and multiplatform support is critical for developers. With PhysX and APEX support for PlayStation 4, customers can look forward to better games.”

PhysX and APEX are used in order to simulate collision detection, rigid body behavior and other elements that add realism to a video game experience and encourage players to immerse themselves in the world they are exploring.

During its launch event, Sony explained that the PlayStation 4 would use a PC-like architecture in order to encourage more developers to port titles to it.
