Owners of handsets powered by Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 operating system have now the possibility to download and install a new highly popular game, namely Plants vs. Zombies.

Already available on a wide range of other platforms out there, both on mobile devices and on desktop PCs, the game was just brought to the Windows Phone Marketplace.

Popcap, the company behind it, promised a late June release about a month ago, and they kept their word.

“Get ready to soil your plants — Plants vs. Zombies is coming to Windows Phone 7,” the title's description reads in the Windows Phone Marketplace.

“A mob of fun-loving zombies is about to invade your home, and the only defense is your arsenal of plants.

“Use peashooters, wall-nuts, cherry bombs and more to mulchify 26 types of zombies before they reach your front door. The fun never dies!”

Plants vs. Zombies is a tower defense game that has no equivalent at the moment, although the idea powering it is a simple one: zombies are invading the lawn, and players have at their disposal attack plants to fend them off.

Users will enjoy a number of no less than 49 plants that can be used to kill zombies in 50 games included in the Adventure Mode, 20 Mini-Games, Puzzle mode and the relaxing Zen Garden.

There are 15 in-game achievements that can be earn, and there is also an Almanac that will offer info on plants and zombies, amusing “facts” and quotes.

In the game, users will also have the possibility to collect coins that can be used for buying a pet snail, or special power-ups, as well as other items.

At the moment, the mobile game is available for purchase from the Windows Phone Marketplace for a one time fee of $4.99, but there is also a free trial for users to enjoy.
