Modding might also allow gamers to bypass city limits

A modder working with the recently launched SimCity has managed to modify the core structure of the game in order to allow it to be played offline for as long as a player wants.

The game kicked players after their Internet connection was offline for about 20 minutes, according to Eurogamer.

The mod from UKAzzer still asks the player to connect to the official Maxis servers in order to save the state of the city and the wider region is not accessible when the game is played offline.

The mod might mean that, despite statements from the development team, a method exists that could make SimCity an exclusively offline experience.

UKAzzer also says that the core architecture of SimCity seems to allow highways to be edited when outside city boundaries, which might mean that the small city boundaries can be eliminated with further work.
