Sony has confirmed during its PlayStation Awards ceremony in Japan that the PlayStation 4 has sold 2.1 million units worldwide as of December 1, being available in North and Latin America, as well as Europe and other PAL territories.

The PS4 came out on November 15 in North America and last week, on November 29, in other parts of the world, including Europe, Australia, or Latin America.

After confirming that it had sold 1 million PS4 units in just 24 hours in North America, Sony has confirmed that the lifetime sales for the next-gen console is now at 2.1 million units.

The announcement was made by Andrew House, the president of Sony's PlayStation division during an awards ceremony in Japan.

The figure is accurate as of December 1, but you can bet that more units have been sold since then and will continue to do so until the end of the year, thanks to the holiday rush.
