14 DAY TRIAL // Anaconda (a Hamburg based publisher) has just released the first screenshots of Gray Matter, ripped right out of Jane Jensen's adventure game, showing the first impressions of the Dread Hill House, a posh English estate house (ages old), the very place where the game's story starts unfold.
Samantha "Sam" Everett, is one of the game's main characters (the attractive woman in the pictures below). The game's story revolves around her, obviously, as she's investigating the rooms of the Dread Hill Houses. In the lab down in the basement (screenshot 4) she learns more about the work of Dr. David Styles, the manor's owner and Sam's employer-to-be. You can actually see how everything is so old and rusty, ready to fall apart at any given time.
Up on the Dread Hill House tower, Sam finds some more clues, helping her on her researches during the game. Out of curiosity, Sam doesn't stop investigating even when she reaches Styles' private bathroom (1st screenshot).
Some pretty amazing graphic details can be observed during gameplay, such as the double reflections on the shower cabin and the mirror. The weather is quite bad throughout the entire game, making it as creepy as it gets. Light bulbs are as huge as the time Edison invented them (who knows, maybe they're the actual ones). Speaking of light, important objects are being lit as you can see (another creepy factor), such as the study.
The game's story mixes eerie happenings with supernatural events, while players control both Dr. David Styles as well as Samantha Everett in their bid to uncover the secrets and find out the truth. Gray Matter tackles issues regarding the nature of reality and the power of the human mind in constructing the world we take for granted.
Gray Matter will be released sometime in the first quarter of 2008, worldwide, but first off will be Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Check out the four screenshots below.
