The development team behind the Ouya Android-based console announces that the device will now miss its original launch date of June 4 and is set to be released for the general public on June25.

Julie Uhrman, who is the chief executive officer working on the device, tells Joystiq that bigger than expected demand is the main reason for the change of dates.

She states, “We’ve had incredibly positive reactions from our retail partners, and so in order to meet their greater than expected demand, we decided to shift the launch date by a couple of weeks – three weeks – which will allow us to create more units and, basically, have more units on store shelves in June.”

The company is currently also shipping replacement controllers for all those who backed the device on Kickstarter and complained about problems with the buttons and the faceplate.

Ouya has also managed to attract more funds via a new round of funding.
