OCZ surfaces a new SSD Toolbox update in the shape of version 3.02.07. This utility is intended to help users upgrade the firmware for their Vertex 4 SSD to the newest beta revision, dubbed 14. RC6.

The new firmware corrects two major issues reported by Vertex 4 owners – these problems caused a lot of trouble with firmware updates on certain drives, while the BIOS updating on some Vertex 4 drives was also impeded.

Namely, attempting to upgrade the firmware for Vertex 4 drives with 1500, 2000, Everest1 and Everest2 controllers resulted in failure if said SSDs were set up as primary drives. At the same time, any BIOS update was prohibited on Vertex 4 units when running the operating system from that drive.

The present version of the Toolbox can also be used to identify, check or update the firmware (if needed) on the following SSDs: OCZ Octane, OCZ Octane S2, OCZ Onyx, OCZ Petrol, OCZ RevoDrive and RevoDrive X2, OCZ Summit, OCZ Vertex 2, Vertex LE, Agility 2, OCZ Vertex 3, Vertex 3 Max IOPS, Agility 3, Solid 3, RevoDrive 3, RevoDrive 3 X2 and Synapse OCZ Vertex Plus, OCZ Vertex, Agility, Vertex Turbo, Vertex EX and Solid 2.

Like with other OCZ firmware, backing up your data is essential, as the upgrade process is a data-destructive one and all information present on the SSD will be erased. Please note that the process will fail if attempting to start the Toolbox when Windows is running off the drive you are trying to update.
