Nintendo is currently considering what to do with the Metroid series, and Nintendo Software Planning & Development Head Shinya Takahashi has confirmed that they're looking at two new Metroid titles.

The company is reportedly planning to make two new games, at 2D one and a 3D one, which comes as a pretty big surprise, considering that the company did not reveal anything during this year's edition of the E3 gaming trade show.

“So it has been a while since we released the last one and we’re having discussions internally about what we can do next. So at this point we have two different types of Metroid games. We have the Prime style of Metroid game and we have the more traditional style of Metroid game," Takahashi explains during an interview with Kotaku.

He continues by stating that the company believes that they need to take care of both types of gameplay the two titles will offer, and he has expressed his hope that they'll be able to share something about them at some point in the near future.

With two new Metroids confirmed, Mario Kart 8 out, and Sumer Smash Bros. and Hyrule Warriors in the works, it looks like the future is starting to shape up for Nintendo.

Now, if only they made something like Skyrim or Fallout 3 (good, original, with depth) for the Wii U, without rehashing the same characters, graphics and mechanics, maybe the console would sell better.
