Nexus S, the second Google phone out there, will soon get a taste of the new Ice Cream Sandwich OS flavor that Google made official today.

The news was confirmed by Google's Gabe Cohen and Matias Duarte, who also said that Android 2.3 Gingerbread handsets should receive the update as well.

“Currently in the process for releasing Ice Cream Sandwich for Nexus S. Theoretically should work for any 2.3 device,” they said, according to Engadget.

No specific release date for the new platform release emerged for the time being, but all should be cleared up soon, it seems. However, it remains to be seen which Gingerbread devices will receive the new OS update, and how they will get along with it.

One thing that Google did not confirm for the time being is whether Nexus One will taste the update or not.
