Gabe Aul reveals new Windows 10 info in recent email

Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 Technical Preview build 9879 earlier this month, but the company also announced that no other updates would be released until early 2015.

Obviously, this delay is necessary to continue work on more significant improvements to Windows 10, which could also include a kernel version update, but thanks to an email that Microsoft is now sending to users, we finally have more details about the date when the new version should come out.

Gabe Aul, a Windows 10 engineer who gets in touch with testers via Twitter, revealed in an email submitted to participants in the Windows Insider Program that the next testing build would be released in January 2015 “with a lot of exciting new things.”

Just as expected, no specifics were provided, but Aul once again requested testers to continue sending feedback in order to help improve the operating system.

“As an Insider, you can provide feedback directly to our engineers by using the Windows Feedback app which is part of the Tech Preview download. Simply search for ‘Windows Feedback’ from the search box,” he said in the email.

Big changes coming in early 2015

Up until now, the January 2015 release date is the only sure thing we know about Windows 10, but sources from within the company are suggesting that many more big changes could happen in early 2015.

Without a doubt, the biggest such moment is the release of Windows 10 in stable form, which, according to some people, could take place in April 2015, but the launch can very well be pushed back a few months if some problems are experienced during development.

What's more, Microsoft is now working on Windows Phone 10 as well, and it appears that some partners have already received an early build of the new smartphone OS. If everything goes according to the plan, users might also get their hands on Windows Phone 10 in early 2015, while the stable product could arrive at about the same time as Windows 10 does.

Windows Phone 10, which could in the end hit the market with a different name, is very likely to be used for Windows RT tablets too, as Microsoft is working to merge the tablet and the smartphone operating systems into a single platform powering both.

The preview build that could thus be unveiled in early 2015 might be addressed to both tablet and smartphone users, as Microsoft would clearly need user feedback as soon as possible in order to improve this new experiment as soon as possible before its public launch.

Lots of these details are really scarce right now, so don't take anything for granted until Microsoft actually confirms them.
