The Sunnyvale company Yahoo released a new version of Yahoo Messenger, especially addressed to the Blackberry smartphone owners who want to communicate on the Internet straight from their devices. Until now, the mobile users were accessing the instant messaging client using its web-based version provided straight by Yahoo. But a Blackberry is actually a device that can support more advanced applications; such a special downloadable program that would be compatible with Yahoo Messenger would be also very useful. That's why the Sunnyvale company and the official Blackberry page now offer a special Yahoo Messenger that can be downloaded and installed on several types of mobile devices.

If you're an AT&T customer, you're not able to use this special instant messaging client because it is not compatible with these devices. At this time, Yahoo Messenger works only on the following handhelds: BlackBerry 7100, 7200, 7500, 7700, 8700 and 8800 series, BlackBerry Pearl and BlackBerry Curve. Although the product is currently free to use, the network operator might charge you depending on its payment plan.

"Yahoo! Messenger, specifically designed for BlackBerry smartphones, extends the look and functionality of Yahoo!'s leading desktop instant messaging client to the BlackBerry platform. Now BlackBerry users with a Yahoo! ID and password can send and receive instant messages with friends, family and colleagues in the Yahoo! community while on the go," it is mentioned on the official page of Yahoo Messenger for Blackberry.

Obviously, all you need to access Yahoo Messenger from your Blackberry device is a Yahoo username and password as well as an Internet connection for your handheld. In addition, you must have 301 kB of free memory bundled with an OS v3.6.0 or higher.
