Publisher Square Enix and developer IO Interactive have released at new trailer for Hitman: Absolution at the VGA show, with players able to watch close to two minutes of action created using the game engine.

Everything in the trailer was pre-rendered, which will probably be a disappointment for fans who were hoping to see actual gameplay, but there’s a lot of narrative hints embedded in the images, including why Agent 47 might be in need of some absolution for his actions.

The trailer also suggests a more action focused game although the developers at IO Interactive have been adamant that the game will still use the stealth mechanics that made it popular and will never force players to go in guns blazing.

Hitman: Absolution will have a new Instinct game mode and Agent 47 has more open options when it comes to traps and unarmed fighting.

Hitman: Absolution will be launched on the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and the PC at some point during 2012.
